The Grand Anarcho-Dandyist Ball

whisky

This was the Chap party of the decade, and anyone who missed it will have to wait another ten years for a party of this magnitude.

Taking place within the revolutionary oak-panelled walls of Conway Hall in London’s Red Lion Square, 650 guests assembled to celebrate ten years of Britain’s only gentleman’s journal.

Entertainment in the Grand Hall, hosted by Mr. David Piper, came from Chap-hop artiste, Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer, jazz devils The Zen Hussies, high-kicking flappers The Bees Knees, beautiful 1940s crooners Twin and Tonic and Mr. Flay, Victorian-style escapologist and bullet catcher. Musical shellac-spinning was ably administered by Messrs Andrew Fletcher and El Nino, late of the Zeppelin Club, Rakehell’s Revels and the Modern Times Club.

Miss Louise Quatorze, in Mao Tse-Tung’s Parlour, played host to Uneven Stephen and his Geisha Girls; Michael “Atters” Attree’s Chaporgasmic Terrors, Anthony Elvin and the Hot Potato Syncopators.

The Chap wishes to extend a cordial thanks to our sponsors, Hine Cognac, Hendrick’s Gin, Spitfire Ale and Pusser’s Rum.

LOST PROPERTY OFFICE
A rather charming bakelite snuffbox was found in the ballroom after the event. Would its owner please drop us a line via our contact page in order to reclaim it.

Ten glorious years of The Chap was celebrated in fine style by a splendid evening’s entertainment, and a rousing call to arms by our illustrious Leader, Mr.Gustav Hathersedge Temple, and with Mr.B the gentleman rhymer, as I believe they say in theatrical circles, bringing the House down. Huzzah!

Hello all.

If you had a photo taken by me and/or a card showing you my website, you will hopefully see yourself gracing the pages of the next issue of The Chap! If not then I will have all the photos available early in the new year.

Hurrah!, a mmost excellent and wonderful evening!.
The only problem that I had was when I was ordering refreashments at the baar.
This “bounder” of a barman was going to put, “ICE!” in my drink!!!.
As the senior Naval Officer present that evening, I felt that it was my duty to point out to him how harmful to one’s health, “ICE!” can be…

“GOOD GOD MAN!”, I said…,
“HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE TITANIC!!!”

Regards, James,

But a great evening and am looking forward to the olympiad!

ICE in a drink? By Jove, cold water is awful enough when you have it in your shoes!

The prospect of meeting Atters on this mortal plane was no let down. His eerie Chaporgasmic “swab” taking was a comedy marvel-PLEASE When is his next complete show?
